2015 Third-grade Reading Results

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has announced that 92% of 2014-2015 third graders achieved a passing score on the 3rd Grade Reading Summative Assessment. This percentage includes results from the initial testing period in April and retesting periods in May and late summer. Students must score at least 926 on the 3rd Grade Reading Summative Assessment to be eligible for promotion to the fourth grade.

Final results after Summer 2015 retesting:
• 92.34%, or 35,022 students, met or exceeded passing score of 926; 7.66%, or 2,907 students, scored below 926

Results of Spring 2015 initial testing:
• 85.17%, or 32,219 students, met or exceeded passing score of 926; 14.83%, or 5,612 students, scored below 926

Some of the students who did not meet the minimum passing score qualified for good cause exemptions that allowed them to proceed to fourth grade regardless of their assessment scores.
