At its April 6 meeting, the Mississippi Charter School Authorizer Board approved the 2015 request for proposals (RFP) for charter schools planning to open in the fall of 2016 or thereafter. The timeline for the 2015 application cycle includes an informational webinar in mid-April and deadlines of May 5 for applicants to submit a letter of intent to the board and May 26 to submit the complete proposal.
The board also approved a strategic plan for its own work in 2015-2016, with the following priorities:
I. Expand high-quality charter options across the state of Mississippi especially in areas of high need.
II. Ensure the quality of authorized charter schools through outcomes-based accountability and oversight practices while respecting charter school autonomy.
III. Establish sound organizational practices and protocols to ensure effective and transparent operation of the Mississippi Charter School Authorizer Board.
